Tiles (2019)

Inspired by Corey D’Augustine’s observations on the paintings of Agnes Martin, these bronze tiles display the tension between conceptual perfection and human imperfection. In a video series by the Museum of Modern Art titles IN THE STUDIO, D’Augustine elaborated on his observation that the triangle is not seen in nature and yet can still be imagined.

These bronze tiles are the visual representation of this analogy, displaying a triangle emerging from a rough texture framed in an imperfect square.
